Charles Oakley Says He Won't 'Bury the Hatchet' with Knicks Owner James Dolan
Former NBA star Charles Oakley made it clear Wednesday that he has no intention of making peace with New York Knicks owner James Dolan.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Oakley said, "Why would you bury the hatchet with someone who dragged you out of the place?"
Dolan ejected Oakley from Madison Square Garden in February 2017 during New York's game against the Los Angeles Clippers, and he was arrested for getting into an altercation with security guards on the way out.
Oakley was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault, one misdemeanor count of aggravated harassment and one misdemeanor count of trespassing, but he agreed to a plea deal in August 2017 to get the charges dismissed.
As part of the deal, Oakley agreed to a one-year ban from Madison Square Garden.
In September, Oakley filed a civil lawsuit against Dolan, as well as Madison Square Garden Company and MSG Sports and Entertainment, for defamation.
The 54-year-old Oakley played 19 years in the NBA and spent 10 of them with the Knicks from 1988-89 through 1997-98.
He averaged 9.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game during his career, and he was named an All-Star in 1993-94.
Oakley is 22nd in NBA history in career rebounds (12,205), and he ranks third in Knicks history behind only Patrick Ewing and Willis Reed.
