LeBron James: I Wasn't a Complete Player Against Mavericks in 2011 Finals
Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey was an assistant on the 2011 Dallas Mavericks team that shut LeBron James down in one of the worst playoff series of his career—and easily the most embarrassing.
After thrashing Casey's Raptors yet again in Thursday's Game 2 victory, James admitted he wasn't the same player in 2011 he is now.
"I wasn't that good of a player in that series," James told reporters following the Cavaliers' 128-110 win in Toronto. "I wasn't a complete basketball player. Dwane Casey drew up a game plan against me in that '11 series I played Dallas to take away things I was very good at and try to make me do things I wasn't very good at."
James averaged 17.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists in the Mavericks' six-game victory over the Miami Heat. The series was seen as both a peak schadenfreude moment for NBA fans and a turning point for James, who used that loss as motivation to reshape his game and lead the Heat to two straight titles.
James has scored 69 points, dished out 27 assists and hauled in 19 boards in Cleveland's two wins in Toronto. Casey and his Raptors will make a trip now to Cleveland, where they'll hope to avoid being swept out of the playoffs for the second straight year.
