Dwyane Wade Has Thought About Future, Won't Break News in Philadelphia
Dwyane Wade confirmed he has thought about his future in the aftermath of the Miami Heat's season-ending 104-91 Game 5 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center.
"Of course, you know I've given it some thought," he told reporters. "This is Philly and I love Philly, but ain't gonna be no breaking news here in Philly."
Wade's wife, Gabrielle Union, tweeted after the game that retirement may be in the cards:
The 36-year-old, who was traded back to the Heat from the Cleveland Cavaliers at the trade deadline, closed his season with 11 points (4-of-15 shooting), five rebounds and five assists in 31 minutes.
However, that performance wasn't indicative of his play in the first-round playoff series.
Following a quiet Game 1, Wade erupted for 28 points and seven boards in a vintage Game 2 showing as the Heat pulled even with the Sixers. He then posted 25 points in a narrow 106-102 Game 4 loss that slipped away from Miami in the fourth quarter.
Those efforts indicated Wade still has a bit of gas left in the tank.
But with unrestricted free agency looming once again, the three-time champion has plenty to ponder as the summer approaches.
"Fresh off the NBA season, my 15th year, I'll sit back and think about that," Wade said, according to the Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman. "Then, I'll dive and throw myself into my family. They're next on my bucket list of making sure I'm there for them."
