Report: Some Warriors Fear White Anchor Mike Shumann Received Special Treatment
ABC7/KGO-TV sports anchor Mike Shumann was seen on tape stealing a jacket from Golden State Warriors director of team security Ralph Walker, according to reports from Steve Berman of The Athletic and ESPN.com, and some Warriors players are reportedly upset with how the situation is being handled.
According to Berman's report:
"Despite Shumann's attempts to apologize to several members of the team, and ABC7 sending him home from San Antonio after the incident—he was not part of ABC7's postgame show on Sunday—several players have told observers that they felt a double-standard was possibly at play.

"What if a media member of color had been caught stealing a team employee's property? Would swifter action have been taken to terminate an alleged thief, and would the incident have gone public sooner?
"According to multiple sources who cover the team, several prominent players have voiced these concerns and are indicating that they will not brush this incident aside."
ESPN's Chris Haynes confirmed that several players are unhappy and believe Shumann has received preferential treatment in the situation.
In a statement, a KGO-TV spokesperson said, "We are taking these allegations very seriously and conducting a full investigation. As a matter of policy, we do not comment about personnel matters."
Berman also noted that the relationship between ESPN/ABC and the NBA could complicate matters. The team has granted Shumann exclusive interviews after games because of ABC's broadcasting rights. As Berman suggested, a situation could arise where the Warriors' players simply refuse to speak with Shumann during those segments.
