Report: Draymond Green Flagrant Foul in Warriors-Spurs Game 2 Won't Be Rescinded

Joseph ZuckerApr 17, 2018

The NBA won't rescind Draymond Green's technical foul in the Golden State Warriors' 116-101 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night, USA Today's Sam Amick reported.

Referees assessed Green a technical with 4:27 left in the game after he apparently elbowed Spurs forward Davis Bertans.

After the game, Green argued he was reacting to what Bertans was doing while they were fighting for positioning on a rebound and that Bertans should've received a technical foul as well, per ESPN.com's Chris Haynes:

"I don't even know if I hit him, but if I did—I'm not saying I didn't, I don't know—but if it's going to be a flagrant foul, shouldn't it be a double flagrant? Like, I can just get grabbed around my neck? I'm not going to sit up here and say I did nothing. I've got to get someone off my neck, though. If you're going to penalize me, then why not penalize both? That's really my only thing."

At the time, Green's technical foul had little impact on the game. The Warriors were up 14 points, and Bertans only hit one of his two technical free throws. LaMarcus Aldridge scored on San Antonio's next possession to make it an 11-point game, but Golden State won comfortably in the end.

However, Haynes noted Green is looking at an automatic one-game suspension if he accumulates more than four technical foul points. Monday's technical gives him one point for the playoffs.

The Warriors are already without Stephen Curry, who's recovering from an MCL sprain. When Curry returns, he may still be feeling some lingering effects from the injury, which was the case when he came back from a knee injury in the 2016 playoffs.

Especially in the Western Conference Finals or NBA Finals, the Warriors could ill afford to lose Green to a one-game suspension.
