Donovan Mitchell Breaks Damian Lillard's Record for 3-Pointers in Rookie Season

Rob GoldbergApr 10, 2018

The debate over Rookie of the Year continues to be heated, but Donovan Mitchell has separated himself in at least one category, via Bleacher Report:

The Utah Jazz rookie entered the day with 182 made three-pointers and made four of his first five in Tuesday's game against the Golden State Warriors at Vivint Smart Home Arena. With Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard playing like All-NBA players at this stage, it's pretty impressive company to put himself in.

It also helps that his primary competitor for the Rookie of the Year award, Ben Simmons, hasn't hit a single three-pointer all season in 11 tries.

Mitchell was the No. 13 pick in the 2018 draft but has exceeded all expectations while averaging 20.5 points per game this season with just two contests remaining. He also made it clear with his pregame outfit he doesn't feel Simmons, who was drafted in 2016, should be eligible for the award.

Considering the Philadelphia 76ers star is averaging 15.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 8.2 assists after Tuesday's 121-113 win over the Atlanta Hawks, this individual battle remains a close one.
