Steve Kerr Calls Warriors Performance in Loss vs. Pacers 'Embarrassing'
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr wasn't happy about his team's performance in Thursday's 126-106 loss to the Indiana Pacers.
He discussed his thoughts after the game, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic:
"It's hard to win an NBA game if you don't put forth an effort at all," Kerr said. "... It was an embarrassing effort, a pathetic effort.
While the Warriors had been dealing with injuries over the past month, the lineup was nearly intact with Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson all active. Stephen Curry, Andre Iguodala and Patrick McCaw all missed the game, but there still should have been enough depth to beat the Pacers.
Unfortunately, Golden State responded with a sloppy effort that featured 9-of-29 shooting from three-point range and 16 turnovers. The defense struggled as well while allowing the most points since a Feb. 22 win versus the Los Angeles Clippers.
Kerr also noted the lack of effort boxing out as the Pacers outrebounded the defending champs 47-39.
The loss itself doesn't matter as the Warriors are already locked into the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference with a 57-22 record. Still, it's clear the coach wants the team to start preparing for the playoffs with just three games remaining in the regular season.
Although the team went 16-1 in the postseason last year en route to its second title in three years, it doesn't appear as though things will be quite as easy in 2018.
