Joel Embiid Reportedly Expected to Miss 2-4 Weeks After Surgery on Eye Injury
The Philadelphia 76ers may have to navigate at least the first round of the postseason without Joel Embiid.
The Sixers announced their All-Star center was diagnosed with a concussion and a fractured orbital bone that requires surgery following his collision with teammate Markelle Fultz during Wednesday's 118-101 win over the New York Knicks.
Per ESPN's Zach Lowe, depending on how the surgery turns out, Embiid could return to Philadelphia's lineup in two to four weeks.
The incident occurred during the second quarter when Fultz attempted to go around Embiid and a Knicks player on a pick. Fultz's shoulder appeared to make direct contact with Embiid's head.
Embiid was initially diagnosed with a facial contusion before being examined at Jefferson Hospital for precautionary tests.
The NBA playoffs begin in 16 days on April 14, so Embiid would have to be on the early end of his rumored return timetable to be back for the 76ers' first game.
Philadelphia has already clinched a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference with a 44-30 record. It is currently the No. 4 seed but trails the Cleveland Cavaliers by half a game for third with eight games remaining.
Embiid is the 76ers' leader in scoring (22.9) and rebounds (11.0) per game this season.
