Cavaliers Meet with UNC's Therapy Dog Remington, 'Right on Time' for JR Smith
The Cleveland Cavaliers met Remington, the University of North Carolina baseball team's service dog, before their 118-105 road win over the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center Wednesday.
Cavs shooting guard JR Smith took particular interest in the pooch and expressed afterward the importance of the meeting, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com.
"It was right on time, especially for me," he said. "I'm an emotional person. I live in my head. I don't really express a lot of things. But let's just say it was right on time."
Smith, who tallied 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in the victory, also posted a picture with "Remi" on Instagram:
McMenamin noted Cavaliers acting head coach Larry Drew credited the special appearance by the dog for Smith's strong showing after struggling with his shot for much of the season.
"You know, I think it was the canine," Drew said. "I walk in the room, and there JR is sitting on the floor. ... He's sitting on the floor petting the [dog]. I think it was the canine that got him going. I can tell he's very fond of that dog, and we're going to have to get that dog back to more shootarounds."
Smith and the Cavs will attempt to carry those positive vibes home to Cleveland ahead of Friday's clash with the New Orleans Pelicans.
