Karl-Anthony Towns Rips Hawks for Franchise-Record 56 Points in Win
Karl-Anthony Towns got the message loud and clear after the Minnesota Timberwolves' embarrassing loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.
Towns scored a career-high and franchise-record 56 points in Minnesota's 126-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. The big man also added 15 rebounds and four assists in perhaps the finest performance in franchise history.
Heading into Wednesday, Towns had been held to 30 total points over his last two games, both of which were losses. Minnesota dropped games to the Philadelphia 76ers and Grizzlies, falling to eighth place in the Western Conference as a result.
Towns scored at least 10 points in every quarter, including 17 in the fourth. No other Minnesota player scored more than three points in the fourth.
Mo Williams previously set the single-game franchise scoring record with 52 points in a January 2015 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
Against Atlanta, Towns knocked down six threes and got to the free-throw line 15 times in by far the best performance of his career. It came a day after 76ers forward Ben Simmons attempted to keep Towns online to play video games, telling him he had "plenty of time" because he was playing the Hawks.
Perhaps some late-night video gaming should become part of Towns' pregame routine?
