Gregg Popovich Talks #MarchForOurLives, Politicians' 'Dereliction of Duty'
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich compared this weekend's March for Our Lives protest to the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
Speaking to reporters during his pregame availability Sunday, Popovich said it was "cowardice" and a "dereliction of duty" on the part of politicians who are choosing to ignore the protest's message, per ESPN's Eric Nehm:
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr previously expressed his support for the students and survivors of the Feb. 14 Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting.
"What those kids are doing is heroic. It's heartfelt," he told reporters in February. "I think it's the beginning of some change. I really believe that. I'm amazed every time I see them on TV or online. It's heartbreaking but inspiring all at once."
Saturday's demonstration originated in Washington, D.C., with similar events taking place in at least 830 cities around the world.
March for Our Lives was organized by Alex Wind, a survivor of the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, and a group of his friends who founded the Never Again campaign that calls for stricter gun control legislation.
