LeBron James on Return-to-Cleveland Billboards: 'It's Very Flattering'
The recruiting process for impending free agent LeBron James has begun—and the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar appreciates the love he's being shown.
On Wednesday, a billboard went up in James' hometown of Akron, Ohio, to remind him that "there is no place like home":
Although James said he hasn't seen the billboard, the three-time NBA champion said he felt honored, via Cleveland.com:
"I haven't seen it. But, like I said before, it's very flattering," he said. "It's just, I don't know, it's very humbling. I know my hometown, so, I already know there's no place like Akron, that's for sure. Me just having everything I've done with that city, obviously, but just being a part of that city my whole life ... it's just very flattering."
Billboards aimed at LeBron are popping up with frequency as of late. Philadelphia fans decided to shoot their shot last month by trying to recruit the King to the 76ers with signs in downtown Cleveland:
Los Angeles fans joined in as well:
Cavaliers fans have responded with their own messages. It's true that there is no place like home, although it wasn't long ago that "Akron hates you" chants took over The Q.
James has done his best to sidestep talk about his future as he looks to reach his eighth consecutive NBA Finals. Cleveland will have to wait until the summer to find out if the product of Akron's St. Vincent-St. Mary High School will stay or leave.
