Nick Foles Trade Rumors: Eagles QB to Draw Interest After Super Bowl 52

Joseph ZuckerFeb 4, 2018

Nick Foles may have helped get the Philadelphia Eagles to Super Bowl LII, but his long-term future with the team is looking somewhat murky.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that some teams will be interested in trading for Foles and that the Eagles may be willing to let him go for the right price:

A trade could be mutually beneficial for both the Eagles and Foles.

The 29-year-old has filled in well for the injured Carson Wentz. He threw for 439 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions over Philadelphia's final three regular-season games and then another 598 yards, three touchdowns and no picks in the playoffs.

Despite his success this year, Foles isn't going to unseat a healthy Wentz for the Eagles' starting job. He'd have a better shot at starting in 2018 on another team.

For Philadelphia, Foles may have more value as a trade asset than as a backup. Wentz's torn ACL showed the benefit of having a good backup, but the Eagles would be foolish not to listen to trade offers if they can get a high draft pick.

The New England Patriots got a second-round pick from the San Francisco 49ers for Jimmy Garoppolo. Although he is three years younger than Foles, Garoppolo had just two starts under his belt before moving to San Francisco.

And as good as Foles has been since replacing Wentz, it's a small sample since his return to Philadelphia. Outside of his Pro Bowl year in 2013, Foles largely struggled in a starting role, and he may revert to that player again in a full 2018 season.

Even if they win a Super Bowl, the Eagles should be wary of overvaluing Foles—and the same could be said of any team looking to possibly trade for him.
