Mitchell Robinson's Technical Foul Rescinded by NBA After Shoving Match with Wemby in Knicks' Win
The NBA rescinded the technical foul that New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson received in Game 2 of the Finals.
Robinson and San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama exchanged shoves in the second quarter of the game while battling for positioning, leading to a technical foul being called on New York's backup big man.
The Knicks ultimately emerged with a 105-104 win, taking a 2-0 series lead.
Robinson finished with seven points, three rebounds, one steal and one block in 14 minutes off the bench during the contest.
His defense on Wembanyama was crucial down the stretch, contesting the two-time All-Star's jumper in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter to seal the result.
Robinson explained his mindset during the last possession after the game.
"In my mind, I was just like, 'Defend without fouling,'" Robinson said, per Joe Vardon of The Athletic. "So … just a great contest, and just kind of how it went."
The 28-year-old has been impactful throughout New York's current playoff run due to his rim protection and offensive rebounding, averaging 5.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game while shooting 73.8 percent from the field during the postseason.
Robinson continuing to operate as a key piece of the Knicks' frontcourt rotation against San Antonio is particularly impressive considering he fractured the fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand before the NBA Finals.
Now, New York is two wins away from capturing its first championship since 1973.
