Mitchell Robinson Avoids Question About How His Injury Occurred After Knicks' Game 1 Win vs. Spurs

After playing in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson declined to get into specifics about how he suffered the hand injury that threatened his participation.

According to SNY's Ian Begley, Robinson said after the Knicks' 105-95 Game 1 win that he was not going to miss the chance to play after waiting eight years to make it to the NBA Finals.

However, he was not interested in discussing what caused his injury, saying, "I'm here to talk about basketball."

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, Robinson fractured the fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand.

Charania added that the injury required surgery, and he pointed out that the injury may have occurred during the third quarter of the Knicks' Game 4 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, as Robinson was seen shaking and grabbing his right hand.

With his hand wrapped, Robinson played 13 minutes in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, which was just shy of his 14.1-minute-per-game average during the playoffs.

Robinson finished with two points on 1-of-2 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds.

While the 7-footer was not a huge factor, he was part of head coach Mike Brown's plan to slow down Spurs superstar center Victor Wembanyama.

That plan worked well in Game 1, as Wembanyama shot just 6-of-21 from the floor.

The biggest difference-maker for New York was guard Jalen Brunson, who battled through what appeared to be both knee and ankle injuries to score a game-high 30 points in the victory.
