Jordan Clarkson: LeBron James Should Pick Lonzo Ball No. 1 in NBA All-Star Draft
Somebody might want to inform Los Angeles Lakers point guard Jordan Clarkson how the NBA All-Star Game works.
The NBA tweaked the All-Star Game format this year and will allow two captains to select the teams from a set pool of players. Clarkson told TMZ Sports he believes Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James, who is one of the two captains, should take Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball with the first overall pick.
Clarkson's comment was surely in jest, though he did his part to try to get the Lakers rookie into the All-Star Game, using the NBA's All-Star voting hashtag on Twitter two days before the voting closed Jan. 15:
Clarkson's efforts were to no avail. According to NBA.com, Ball had 607,961 fan votes, which ranked sixth among Western Conference guards, and his nine votes from fellow players were 13th-most.
The fact Ball even earned that much isn't entirely surprising based on his popularity—both by playing in Los Angeles and through the growth of Big Baller Brand and the Ball family.
By the numbers, though, Ball certainly isn't deserving of All-Star recognition. He's averaging 10.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 7.1 assists, and he's shooting 35.6 percent from the field.
Were Ball to somehow sneak into the All-Star Game as a reserve, James would still be precluded from selecting him first overall. James and fellow captain Steph Curry are limited to picking from the eight remaining starters in the first round.
