Missed Free Throws Cost Cleveland Cavaliers in Loss to Brooklyn Nets
The Cleveland Cavaliers shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the free-throw line during Wednesday's 112-107 loss to the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center, and the visitors' inability to convert from the charity stripe late in the contest cost the Cavs a chance at forcing overtime.
The two clubs traded buckets throughout the final few minutes of play, and Cleveland guard Kyle Korver drained a three-pointer to decrease the deficit to 108-107 with under 25 seconds on the clock.
After Brooklyn's Rondae Hollis-Jefferson managed to only convert one of two free throws, Cleveland superstar LeBron James received an opportunity to tie the game from the line after he was fouled attempting a layup with less than eight seconds remaining.
James bricked the first attempt and intentionally missed the second to create a rebound opportunity for his team. However, Kevin Love missed the tip-in shot immediately after, and DeMarre Carroll secured the defensive rebound, helping the Nets hold on for the victory.
