Alejandro Villanueva, Steelers Reportedly Agree to New 4-Year Contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly given offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva a four-year contract extension. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Villanueva and the Steelers agreed to the extension on Thursday. 

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the four-year deal is worth $24 million. Villanueva would have made $615,000 as an exclusive-rights free agent prior to his new deal.

After going undrafted out of Army in 2010, Villanueva went back into military service and did three tours of duty in Afghanistan before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in May 2014. 

The Steelers signed Villanueva to their practice squad in Aug. 2014 after the Eagles waived him. He made his in-game debut during the 2015 season and has appeared in all 32 games over the past two years, including starting all 16 games at left tackle in 2016. 

Pro Football Focus ranked Villanueva as the NFL's third-most improved offensive tackle from 2015-16. The 28-year-old was entering the final season of his previous contract that pays him $615,000 in base salary, per Spotrac, before becoming a restricted free agent next offseason.
