Lakers Rumors: Latest Buzz on Tyler Ennis, Rodney Stuckey and More

It's been an exciting summer for the Los Angeles Lakers. They've brought in several new players, including Lonzo Ball, Brook Lopez and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. They have a strong crop of young prospects that have qualified for the Las Vegas Summer League championship game, which will happen Monday at 10 p.m. ET.

The roster-tinkering isn't over, though. Los Angeles has a few spots left on its roster, and the team is looking to add some depth in the backcourt.

Let's review some recent rumors surrounding the Lakers' pursuits in free agency.

Lakers Pursuing a Trio of Guards After Missing Out on Rajon Rondo

The Lakers failed to sign one of their targets at the point guard position, Rajon Rondo, once he agreed to join the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. It's clear Los Angeles was aiming to add some experience into a young roster that has just two players older than 30 (Corey Brewer and Luol Deng) under contract for the 2017-18 season.

Los Angeles hasn't stopped looking for guard depth, though. Mark Medina of the Orange County Register reported that the team was interested in re-signing Tyler Ennis at the beginning of free agency. That interest is likely even stronger now that Rondo is off the market.

Ennis was rock solid for the Lakers after the team acquired him at the trade deadline in February. His numbers for Los Angeles in points per game (7.7), assists per game (2.4), true shooting percentage (55.3) and player efficiency rating (14.3) would all be career highs if they had occurred over a full season, per Basketball Reference.

However, Medina also said the Lakers are interested in free agents Rodney Stuckey and Ian Clark. Both players are more combo guards than actual floor generals, and Los Angeles is already loaded at the 2 position with Caldwell-Pope, Jordan Clarkson and rookie Josh Hart on the roster.

If the Lakers were to acquire one of Stuckey or Clark, Clark seems like the much better option, assuming his price is somewhat reasonable. He's the better spot-up shooter, a bit better on defense and doesn't need the ball in his hands as much to be effective. Los Angeles already has plenty of ball-dominant players, such as Ball, Clarkson, Julius Randle and Lopez. Clark also has championship experience.

Ennis is probably the best guy to re-sign, though, as there's more of a need at point guard than shooting guard. At the moment, Ball is the only floor general under contract for Los Angeles.

Jordan Farmar and Lakers Considering Reunion

The Lakers aren't limiting their guard search to just the aforementioned names, though. Per HoopsHype's Alex Kennedy, there's a veteran point guard on the market who Los Angeles has met with:

Farmar would assuredly sign for the veteran minimum, considering that he's hardly an impact player at this stage in his career. He played only two contests with the Sacramento Kings last season, averaging 6.0 points and 4.5 assists in those games before the team released him. No other team picked him up throughout the rest of the year.

If the Lakers were serious about the veteran presence Rondo could've provided, though, signing the 30-year-old Farmar might not be the worst move. He played four seasons in Los Angeles to start his career, making the Finals in three of those seasons and winning two championships as a role player. Obviously, his role would be much smaller this time around.

People often overlook the fact that players can provide value to their teams in ways other than just their contributions on the court. If Farmar can help players such as Ball, Caldwell-Pope and Ingram learn what it takes to be a winner in the NBA, this potential signing will have been worth it.
