LaVar Ball Says Lonzo Could Sign with Major Shoe Brand 'If the Price Is Right'
LaVar Ball told ESPN.com's Darren Rovell on Saturday that his son Lonzo could still sign with a major shoe brand after wearing Nikes and Adidas during Las Vegas Summer League play.
"It's making a statement to the brands of what they could have had with an open mind," LaVar said. "The players are the brand ambassadors. The brand is nothing without the players."
The Ball family patriarch added that Lonzo would ink a deal "if the price is right."
"Quite frankly we are officially in the shoe game, and are a billion dollar brand either way," he said.
According to Rovell, LaVar previously asked the likes of Nike, Adidas and Under Armour for $1 billion to sign Lonzo and an agreement to sublicense products made by Big Baller Brand.
Lonzo told Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times on Saturday that he will wear Stephen Curry's Under Armour shoes in Saturday's Summer League game versus the Brooklyn Nets.
After LaVar's initial offers were rebuffed, the Ball family launched Lonzo's signature ZO2 sneaker under the Big Baller Brand banner. Big Baller Brand has subsequently retailed the ZO2 on preorder for anywhere between $495-695 as it attempts to position the shoe as a luxury product.
