NBA Summer League 2017: Friday Scores, Highlights and Las Vegas Results
Las Vegas Summer League action continued Friday at the Cox Pavilion and the Thomas and Mack Center in Paradise, Nevada, with many of the NBA's brightest young stars taking center stage.
Friday's slate featured eight games, and although the Los Angeles Lakers and Lonzo Ball were off and Philadelphia 76ers No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz was out due to injury, there were plenty of top prospects to keep track of.
Chief among them were Phoenix Suns forward Josh Jackson and Chicago Bulls big man Lauri Markkanen.

Cavaliers 78 (4-1), Raptors 75 (3-2)
The Cleveland Cavaliers only used seven players and were still able to knock off the Toronto Raptors, 78-75, in overtime.
Four Cavs scored at least 10 points in the win. T.J. Williams led the way with 21 points, though he only shot 6-of-19. Edy Tavares was able to post a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Sir'Dominic Porter had the best all-around effort for Cleveland. The 25-year-old did a little bit of everything with 14 points, eight rebounds, six assists, seven steals and this block in the first quarter:
Even though the Raptors used a deeper bench with 10 players, they struggled to generate enough consistent offense. They shot just 38 percent overall, including 8-of-31 from three-point range.
Raptors undrafted rookie Kennedy Meeks was one of the few offensive bright spots with 18 points. He also grabbed nine defensive rebounds.
Jalen Reynolds made the most of his 14 minutes on the court for Toronto. He chipped in with 12 points and had six rebounds, including three on the offensive glass.
Kings 93 (2-4), Suns 87 (2-4)
The Sacramento Kings overcame a 13-point deficit to earn a 93-87 victory over the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns stormed out of the gate with a 22-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, though that would be the only quarter they would win. Sacramento saved its best act for last with a 32-point fourth quarter.
Kings rookie Justin Jackson led the offensive barrage with a game-high 29 points, though he shot just 9-of-22 from the field.
Nazareth Mitrou-Long, who finished with 21 points, delivered a key three-pointer with 28.4 seconds remaining that put Sacramento up by four:
Looking to make it back into the NBA after playing last season in Germany, Jack Cooley posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists in the win.
Mike James had a nice showing in defeat. The 26-year-old led the Suns with 25 points and added six rebounds for good measure.
2017 second-round pick Davon Reed was all over the place with 17 points on just 4-of-15 shooting, but provide one of the game's highlights on this drive to the basket that ended with a layup and foul call:
Both teams are still in the process of building around their exceptional young talent and will need time before competing for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. This was a showcase night for some players looking to fill out those final spots on the roster when the season starts.
Jazz 97 (1-4), Bucks 76 (1-4)
The Utah Jazz cruised to an easy 97-76 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks to earn their first victory of the Las Vegas summer league season.
Tony Bradley led the offensive barrage for Utah with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. The team shot a collective 52 percent and had 23 assists on 39 field goals.
Bradley, who was the No. 28 pick in June's draft, showed some range with his shot, as seen in this video from the Jazz's official Twitter account:
On the other end of the rookie spectrum, Nigel Williams-Goss didn't show much for the Jazz in the win. The former Gonzaga star had just five points on 1-of-5 shooting and four turnovers in 16 minutes.
The Bucks did have a balanced attack in defeat. Three players tied for the team lead with 12 points, including Gary Payton II.
Milwaukee's 2017 first-round pick D.J. Wilson did hot show a good shooting touch, hitting just three of his 10 attempts.
Warriors 109 (2-4), Clippers 100 (3-2)
The Golden State Warriors won an offensive shootout against the Los Angeles Clippers, 109-100, for their second win of the summer league.
Dylan Ennis was the star of the game, doing his best Stephen Curry impression with 35 points on 8-of-11 shooting from three-point range.
The Warriors had a total of six players score in double figures. Bryce Alford, who was a senior leader on the same UCLA team that had Lonzo Ball last season, had a terrific performance with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Kevon Looney, another former UCLA star from 2014-15, posted a double-double in the win with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Clippers also had six players who scored at least 10 points. Jaron Johnson led the charge with 18 points, and he also made four of their eight three-pointers.
Nuggets 96 (2-4), Pelicans 91 (1-5)
The Denver Nuggets got back in the win column on Friday with a 96-91 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
The final score is indicative of how close this game was. The Nuggets shot better overall than the Pelicans, hitting 50.6 percent of their attempts to 44.2 percent, but the Pelicans were able to keep it close by making four more three-pointers.
Monte Morris led the charge for Denver with 17 points and six assists. Dallas Moore made two late buckets that helped the Nuggets secure the win, including this terrific drive and layup with less than 30 seconds remaining:
The Pelicans may have come up short on this night, but Jalen Jones was a shining light. After spending last season with the Maine Red Claws in the development league, he put the Pelicans on notice with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Bulls 99 (2-3), 76ers 82 (1-4)
The new-look Chicago Bulls had a terrific night all-around to earn a 99-82 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brady Heslip and Denzel Valentine each scored more than 20 points for the Bulls, with Heslip going 8-of-15 from three-point range.
Former NBA player Jerry Stackhouse, who is currently coaching the Toronto Raptors' G-league team, had high praise earlier this week for Heslip's shooting touch, via BSN Denver's Harrison Wind:
The Bulls will be looking to find playmakers who can help both this season and into the future. Heslip has a long way to go to prove himself as an NBA player, but his summer-league performance is certainly helping his cause.
Even though the 76ers didn't have much to celebrate on this night, Furkan Korkmaz did bring his dancing shoes with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Hawks 92 (3-2), Rockets 86 (2-3)
The Atlanta Hawks exploded for 34 points in the fourth quarter, overcoming a six-point deficit to down the Houston Rockets.
While it took Atlanta some time to truly find its offensive rhythm, it finished the contest shooting a solid 46.7 percent from the field, while the Rockets converted just 41.8 percent of their attempts.
Much of the focus was on Hawks first-round draft pick John Collins, and he didn't disappoint, providing some highlight-reel dunks.
As seen in this video courtesy of the Hawks' official Twitter account, Collins proved difficult to stop when he created some space in the paint:
Although Collins finished with only seven points and five rebounds, the Wake Forest product flashed his big-time potential.
The biggest starring performance for the Hawks came from unheralded guard Trent Lockett, who led the team with 17 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
He doesn't receive nearly the amount of attention Collins does, but he proved in the game that he has some remarkable hops in his own right:
Despite coming out on the losing end, the Rockets benefited from some solid performances, with L.J. Peak and Chris Johnson scoring 19 and 17 points, respectively.
The Rockets traded much of their depth to land guard Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers, which means there should be open roster sports.
Peak went undrafted out of Georgetown, but he was 6-of-8 from the field Friday and made his case to be considered as a bench player in 2017-18.
Timberwolves 80 (1-4), Wizards 73 (2-3)
The Minnesota Timberwolves came from behind to score their first win in Las Vegas Summer League play Friday with a victory over the Washington Wizards.
Washington led by 12 points at halftime and led by as many as 15 points, but Minnesota outscored the Wizards by 19 points in the second half to secure the win.
Minnesota received contributions throughout the lineup, as four players scored in double figures.
Former Michigan State big man Matt Costello led the way with 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field thanks to some solid work in the paint, as seen in this video from the T'Wolves' official Twitter account:
Costello also grabbed 11 rebounds to complete a double-double.
A pair of big collegiate names helped Minnesota to victory as well with former Kansas guard Perry Ellis and former North Carolina guard Marcus Paige combining for 23 points.
Danuel House was Washington's leading scorer with 13 points, while Marcus Keene scored 12, three of which came on a buzzer beater to close the first half, as evidenced by video from the Wizards' Twitter account:
Washington had all the momentum on its side entering the locker room, but it could only muster 22 points in the entire second half.
Both teams shot under 40 percent from the field, and they combined for 27 turnovers in what was a fairly sloppy game.
