Report: MLB Vet Unretires After 1 Day
Francona missed Cleveland's game on June 27, andย Jordan Bastianย of MLB.com noted the manager also left a contest on June 13 when he experienced lightheadedness from dehydration. According to Bastian, Francona missed a game last year with chest discomfort and was taken to the hospital in 2005 as manager of the Boston Red Sox with "stiffness" in his chest.
What's more, he was hospitalized for four days in 2002 with a pulmonary embolism in each lung.
This is Francona's fifth season with the Indians, and he sports a 396-331 record during that tenure. He led Cleveland to the World Series last year and has his team atop the American League Central in 2017 with a 44-37 mark.
