Jordan Hill Waived by Timberwolves, Appeared in 7 Games for Minnesota

Scott PolacekJun 26, 2017

Big man Jordan Hill's tenure with the Minnesota Timberwolves ended Monday.

The Timberwolves announced they waived him after just one season with the team. Minnesota signed him as a free agent before the 2016-17 campaign, but he appeared in a mere seven games and averaged just 1.7 points and 2.0 rebounds a night.

Hill's showing for Minnesota was a disappointing setback after the three most productive seasons of his career from 2013 to 2016. He averaged 9.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in 2013-14 and 12.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in 2014-15ย with the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as 8.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in 2015-16 with the Indiana Pacers.

He is still just 29 years old and flashed consistent production down low those three straight seasons, meaning he should garner interest elsewhere after Minnesota released him.

From the Timberwolves' perspective,ย Bobby Marksย of The Vertical noted their cap space would range from $18 to $22 million after trading for Jimmy Butler. According to Marks, they had until June 30 to guarantee Hill's $4 million contract, and they chose not to with this move.

Minnesota boasts a formidable core with Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins but lost some depth trading Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn. Hill's departure creates additional space to add someone who can serve as an impact role player, especially after the Arizona product was mostly an afterthought in his one season with the team.
