JR Smith Says He Didn't Post Farewell Message to Cavaliers on Facebook

Alec NathanJun 21, 2017

Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard JR Smith was briefly embroiled in more social media drama Wednesday when a message appeared on his Facebook reading, "Goood Bye CAVS!!"

The post, which has since been deleted, was captured via screenshot by Land of 10's Ben Axelrod:

Smith later denied he posted the comment:

A similar issue plagued Smith during the NBA Finals when he tweeted "Cavs in 7" after the Golden State Warriors took a commanding 3-0 series lead.

"I got out of the shower and my phone was buzzing. I did not tweet that," Smith told Cleveland.com's Doug Lesmerises. "I'm smarter than that."

As things stand, Smith is under contract with the Cavaliers for at least two more years after he signed a four-year, $57 million deal with the Wine and Gold last October.

Unless the Cavaliers trade Smith, the earliest they could get out of his contract would be in the summer of 2019, since his $15.6 million salary for the 2019-20 season is only guaranteed for $3.8 million, per Spotrac
