Mike Trout to Resume Swinging in Rehab Following Thumb Surgery
Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout is set to ramp up his rehab activities while joining the team on a road trip to face the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
Halos manager Mike Scioscia confirmed Saturday the two-time American League MVP will soon attempt to swing a bat again after undergoing thumb surgery May 31, per ESPN.com.
Trout originally suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb on a headfirst slide during a 9-2 loss to the Miami Marlins on May 28. Maria Guardado of MLB.com noted the official timetable for his recovery was between six and eight weeks.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
The 25-year-old has remained hopeful he'll be back on the field in time to make his sixth consecutive All-Star Game on July 11.
Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times passed along comments from Trout, who said it'd be "pretty cool" to play in the Midsummer Classic, but he still wanted to avoid any unnecessary risk.
"Before the All-Star break, right at the All-Star break, depending on how it goes," Trout said Tuesday. "I don't want to push it. I want to make sure it's right. I don't want it to be lingering the rest of the season."
Trout owns a robust .337/.461/.742 triple-slash line with 16 home runs, 36 RBI and 10 stolen bases through 47 games.
Cameron Maybin will continue to fill the void in center field, while Eric Young Jr. draws into the lineup in left, until the best player in baseball is cleared to return.
