Lakers Fan Derek Carr Says Warriors' Championship Makes Him Hungry to Win Title

Mike ChiariJun 14, 2017

After watching the Golden State Warriors win their second championship in three years, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is itching to win one as well.

According to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area, Carr wants to experience what his Oakland brethren accomplished by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals on Monday.

"It makes you hungry every time you see another team celebrate a championship," he said Tuesday. "It makes you dream those dreams you had as a kid, of standing on the stage, holding trophies up. It was fun to watch, and I'm happy for those guys. Hopefully they win a whole lot more."

While Carr has long been a Los Angeles Lakers fan, he was pulling for the Warriors to come out on top because of the Bay Area connection:

"I've been a Lakers fan and will be forever. Kobe's my favorite athlete ever, but I root for the hometown team. So to see them do that and see what it does for our city, it's great that our city can experience something like that," he said. "All the Warriors fans, most of them anyway, are Raiders fans if they don't travel back across the Bay and root for that other team. Whenever you have something going on the Bay Area, there's no better place to win. It's really cool."

Carr is coming off a season that saw him lead the Raiders to a 12-3 record as a starter. He also threw for 3,937 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions, and he was in the MVP race for much of the year.

The two-time Pro Bowler broke his fibula in Week 16 versus the Indianapolis Colts, however, and the Houston Texans eliminated Oakland during the Wild Card Round of the playoffs without him.

With Carr back in the fold for 2017, the Raiders may be the biggest threat to the New England Patriots in the battle for AFC supremacy.

While the young and talented Raiders have the pieces in place to potentially win a Super Bowl in the near future, they'll have to do so in the next two years if they want it to happen in Oakland since they will move to Las Vegas in 2019.
