Travis Shaw's Newborn Daughter Stable After Open-Heart Surgery Complications
Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Travis Shaw was forced to leave the team last weekend to accompany his family while his daughter underwent open-heart surgery.
He explained the situation Tuesday, via Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
"She was born with a severe heart condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome. It's a pretty severe heart deformation. We knew this going in and I knew that she was going to have to have surgery.

She had open-heart surgery on Friday. There were some complications and they had to go back in Saturday for a couple more surgeries. She's been stable ever since Saturday."
Shaw returned to the team Tuesday. He had been on the family medical emergency list since Friday but was in the lineup for the first game of the doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ryann Shaw's surgery was performed at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, which is regarded as one of the top medical centers in the country for the type of procedure required, per Rosiak. The fit was a stroke of good luck in a bad situation, considering Shaw was just traded to the team in the offseason.
The 27-year-old is in his third year in the majors after spending the first two with the Boston Red Sox.
