Warriors GM Bob Myers 'Confident' Steve Kerr Will Coach Team Next Season
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr returned from lingering back problems for the final four games of the NBA Finals, and general manager Bob Myers believes Kerr will be back next season.
Myers made his statement about Kerr's status after the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday to capture their second title in three years.
"There's no doubt in my mind that he will return as the coach of this team," he told Chris Haynes of ESPN.com. "I'm confident we'll have him back. Steve will be our coach."
Kerr was forced to take a leave of absence from the Warriors after Game 2 of the opening-round series against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Prior to Game 4 against the Blazers, Kerr wasn't sure if he would be able to return to the sidelines during Golden State's playoff run.
"As of now, I'm consulting with my doctors," Kerr told reporters. "I'm hoping for some improvement. If I can get some improvement, I'll get back on the sidelines. But I'm not going to do that unless I know I can help my team."
Warriors assistant Mike Brown served as head coach in Kerr's absence. Golden State went 16-1 this postseason en route to winning an NBA championship.
In three seasons as head coach of the Warriors, Kerr has amassed a 207-39 record. His .841 winning percentage is the best in NBA history, per Basketball-Reference.com.
