Steve Kerr Had No Doubts That Kevin Durant Joining Warriors Would Work
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had complete faith signing Kevin Durant wouldn't throw off the chemistry his team had built in the last two years.
"There was no question in my mind that this was going to work," Kerr said of Durant's arrival, per Michael Grange of Rogers Sportsnet.
The Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 in Game 5 of the 2017 NBA Finals to win their second title in three years.
It would be a stretch to say Durant was the missing piece of the proverbial puzzle, but his presence helped turn the Warriors from a potentially vulnerable team in a seven-game series to downright unbeatable over a postseason series.
Durant averaged 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists in the Finals en route to winning MVP.
And while some questioned how Durant would adjust to the Warriors, this wasn't the case of forming a new roster of All-Stars, as was the case with the Cavaliers and Miami Heat during the Big Three era. Durant was joining a team that had already won 73 games in the regular season and was 3-1 up in the 2016 NBA Finals.
Still, the fact the Warriors have already established themselves as a class above the rest of the league is a scary thought as Kerr figures out even more so how to maximize the talent on his squad.
