Kevin Durant Reminds Draymond Green of Time He Dropped 54 on Him After Game 2

Joseph ZuckerJun 4, 2017

Kevin Durant won't let his Golden State Warriors teammate Draymond Green forget the night he scored 54 points on the Warriors.

Following Golden State's 132-113 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the 2017 NBA Finals, Green mentioned in passing Durant's big night against Golden State. After Green said Durant scored 52 points, the 2014 MVP made sure to correct him, per the San Jose Mercury News' Anthony Slater:

The 54 points are still a career high for Durant, which is why the performance remains fresh in his memory. He went 19-of-28 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range, to help the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Warriors 127-121 on Jan. 17, 2014.

Through two games, Durant is making a strong case to be named Finals MVP. He's averaging 35.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists, and so far, the Cavaliers have no answer for him.

Going from Harrison Barnes to Durant was obviously an upgrade for Golden State, and Durant's numbers so far emphasize how much better off the Warriors are.

Already, Durant has more points (71) than Barnes (65) did in the 2016 Finals, and he has nearly matched Barnes' output on the glass. Barnes had 31 rebounds over the seven-game series, whereas Durant has 22 in Golden State's two wins.

Superteams don't always pan out as expected. The Miami Heat needed a year of adjustment following the arrivals of Chris Bosh and LeBron James in 2010, while the Cavaliers were on the brink of disaster before last year's historic Finals comeback.

Taking that into account, it's impressive how seamlessly Durant has fit in with the Warriors, and as a result, Golden State looks a near certainty to add a fifth NBA championship.
