Steve Kerr Says There Is 'No Way' Warriors Win on Road with Repeat of Game 2

Joseph ZuckerJun 4, 2017

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr expects a strong response from the Cleveland Cavaliers following his team's 132-113 win in Game 2 of the 2017 NBA Finals Sunday night.

Kerr offered a somewhat critical take of his team's performance, telling reporters that some of the Warriors' stars played well individually but failed to produce as a collective unit. He said a repeat of that would result in a defeat as the series shifts to Cleveland, per NBA TV:

Kerr is likely trying to light a fire under his players after the Warriors beat the Cavaliers by a combined 41 points in Games 1 and 2.

ESPN.com's Tom Haberstroh noted Cleveland was in a worse position after two games in last year's Finals:

While the Cavaliers overcame a 3-1 series deficit in 2016, they look overmatched this time around. After sweeping their Western Conference foes en route to the Finals, the Warriors are doing the exact same to Cleveland.

Kevin Durant has proved to be the dynamic, dominant player Golden State expected when he signed last summer. Even if the Warriors didn't have Durant, the Cavs would have a difficult time repeating. Throw Durant in the mix, and Cleveland can't hang with Golden State for a full 48-minute stretch.

Durant is putting himself at the front of the Finals MVP conversation, as he's averaging 35.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists through the first two games.

As if the Warriors didn't have enough going in their favor, they got their head coach back Sunday night. Kerr returned to the bench for the first time since back problems forced him to take a leave of absence in the first round of the playoffs.

Kerr may not have been satisfied with his team in Game 2, but it's hard to see how the Warriors falter over the remainder of the series if they keep playing like this.
