Warriors Explode for 40 Points in 1st Quarter of NBA Finals Game 2 vs. Cavaliers
The Golden State Warriors seem to be only getting stronger in the NBA playoffs.
They kicked off Game 2 of the 2017 NBA Finals by scoring 40 points in the first quarter against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday. Stephen Curry led the way with 15 points, including a perfect 10-of-10 mark from the free-throw line.
Kevin Durant also had a strong showing, as Bleacher Report noted:
The Cavaliers tried to keep pace, but they trailed 40-34 after the first 12 minutes.
While we have become accustomed to high-scoring outputs from the Warriors, Mitch Goldich of Sports Illustrated showed why this was an impressive feat for this stage of the postseason:
As Rosalyn Gold-Onwude of NBC Sports pointed out, there wasn't a lot of defense from either side:
The Warriors finished 12-of-23 from the field in the quarter, including 5-of-11 from three-point range, helping the squad light up the scoreboard despite eight turnovers. The team is 22-0 this season when scoring at least 35 points in the first quarter, per Arash Markazi of ESPN.
NBA TV captured the biggest plays from the offensive explosion:
After scoring 113 in Game 1, Golden State appears ready for even more points in Game 2.
