The Los Angeles Dodgers landed a multi-talented outfielder with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2017 MLB draft, as they selected Vanderbilt's Jeren Kendall on Monday.

The 21-year-old Kendall has been a key contributor for the Commodores since debuting as a freshman in 2015.

He came into his own during his sophomore season with a .332 batting average, nine home runs, 59 RBI and 28 stolen bases.

While Kendall's batting average and production on the basepaths dipped as a junior in 2017, he experienced a power surge and put up a .307/.372/.576 slash line with 15 homers.

Here's what social media thought of the Dodgers getting Kendall late in the first round:

As seen in this video courtesy of NCAA Baseball, Kendall packs plenty of strength into his 6'0", 190-pound frame:

Per John Manuel of Baseball America, however, there is concern about Kendall's high strikeout rate.

That has been on full display in the Cape Cod League over the past two years, as he hit just .216 and struck out 35 times in 102 at-bats.

When Kendall does put the ball in play, though, he is always a threat to reach base.

Even infield dribblers can pose a problem because of his blazing speed, as seen in this video from Baseball America's Michael Lananna:

Kendall impacts the game in myriad ways, and Vandy infielder Will Toffey has experienced that firsthand, according to Lananna: "He's an amazing player. He's fun to watch. He's got bat speed like no other, and he can run like hell. He's an energy guy. When he's on, he can take over a game."

Per John Sickels of MinorLeagueBall.com, Kendall has been compared to New York Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and former Yankees and Boston Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon.

All three players possess speed, power and the ability to make remarkable plays in center field.

Kendall needs to work on his consistency and strike-zone discipline, but if he can make strides in those areas, he projects as a potentially great No. 2-hole hitter in the big leagues.

The Dodgers have been terrific at developing their own talent in recent years, with players like Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger being excellent examples.

Kendall gets to hone his skills as a professional ballplayer in the Dodgers organization, eventually bringing his combination of speed and hitting to Los Angeles with the ultimate goal of winning a World Series for one of MLB's most storied franchises.
