Scottie Pippen Says Phil Jackson Should Be Dismissed as Knicks President
Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen joined the chorus of voices questioning Phil Jackson's handling of the New York Knicks.
"I just think he hasn't put the right pieces on the floor," Pippen said of his old coach during ESPN's The Jump Thursday. "But this team really just hasn't had it. They haven't had it since [Jackson] landed there."
The Knicks officially hired Jackson as team president in March 2014. Between the 2014-15 and 2016-17 seasons, the franchise has the fifth-worst record (77-162) in the NBA, according to Basketball-Reference.com. Jackson is also on his third head coach, Jeff Hornacek, having fired Mike Woodson and Derek Fisher.
Even worse, Jackson remains devoted to his triangle offense, which looks outmoded in today's NBA. The New York Daily News' Stefan Bondy reported in February the triangle was again going to become a staple of the Knicks' game plan.
It's hard to see how the Knicks can turn things around with Jakcson in charge.
The 71-year-old can opt out of his deal with the team at the end of the season, but Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding reported in December Jackson not only intended to stay with the Knicks through the summer, he may also consider signing an extension when his contract ends in 2019.
