Isaiah Thomas Becomes 6th Celtics Player to Score 2,000 in a Season
Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas tallied 32 points in Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks, pushing him to 2,012 points for the 2016-17 season.
Thomas' effort moved him into a group of six elite Celtics to have scored at least 2,000 points in a season, per NBA History. He joins the likes of Sam Jones, John Havlicek, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Paul Pierce.
The sixth-year player scored his previous career-high total of 1,823 points last season but has upped his scoring considerably this year. Through 69 games played, Thomas has averaged 29.2 points, 5.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds. While his assist and rebound totals have dipped minimally, his increased scoring output (by 7.0 points) far outweighs the other drops.

Thomas has already surpassed McHale's 2,008 points scored during the 1986-87 campaign, placing him 12th on the Celtics' single-season scoring list. With seven games remaining in the season, he has a solid shot at cracking the top five campaigns in team history. Havlicek's franchise-record 2,338 points scored in 1970-71 seems out of reach, however.
Boston has exceeded expectations this season thanks largely to the play of the University of Washington product. The club's loss to Milwaukee on Wednesday evening dropped them out of the top spot in the Eastern Conference, but it still stands a decent shot of securing it.
