Marshawn Lynch 'Entertaining' Idea of NFL Return, Confirms Pete Carroll

Adam WellsMar 29, 2017

One year after retiring from the NFL, running back Marshawn Lynch could be ready to bring Beast Mode back to the league.

Per ESPN.com's Sheil Kapadia, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll described Lynch's mindset in a meeting between the two sides last week.

"He came through the office and had a good visit," Carroll said. "I know that he is somewhat entertaining the thought of it. I can't tell you how strong it is. You've got to talk to him. And that chance isn't happening."

Lynch's future has become a hot topic of discussion this offseason. The 30-year-old has drawn the interest of the Oakland Raiders.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported it will be "Raiders or bust" if Lynch does make a return to the NFL.

There is a potential snag in that plan for Lynch and the Raiders. He's still under contract to the Seahawks for two seasons, so they would have to release or trade him.

Kapadia noted March 17 the Seahawks' most likely option with Lynch will be to release him. They don't have trade leverage, and his $9 million base salary is a big number for a team that has just under $10 million in cap space, per Over the Cap.

Another potential snag, assuming the Raiders are the only team Lynch wants to play for, is how he feels about the team's future move to Las Vegas. He is from Oakland and has set up a charity foundation in the city.

The Raiders will play in Oakland for the next two seasons before their move. Lynch still has to decide what he wants to do, which is the biggest uncertainty right now. Until he files papers to return to the NFL, everything is speculation.
