Ranking WWE's Top Impersonations After Miz & Maryse Mock John Cena & Nikki Bella

The Doctor Chris MuellerMar 24, 2017

Tuesday's SmackDown featured some alleged lost footage from Total Bellas, but what it ended up being was The Miz and Maryse mocking their WrestleMania opponents.

WWE's resident "it couple" have been on fire lately, and this segment was just another in a long line of standout moments for The Miz since the brand extension.

Over the years, many Superstars have impersonated their opponents as a way of getting in their head and under their skin.

These segments are usually hilarious because these Superstars spend enough time with each other on the road to be able to craft a decent impression.

Others have taken it to another level and created a whole gimmick based off another Superstar. This slideshow will rank the top Superstar impressions from WWE, with one from WCW thrown in for good measure.

Honorable Mentions

1 of 16

Before we get to the main list, we should take some time to acknowledge some of the better impressions that didn't make the cut.

Some of these segments simply weren't funny enough, while others may have made the list if WWE had any photo or video evidence on their website to prove it happened.

For instance, DX once had each member dress up as a different person from The Nation of Domination, but good luck finding it on WWE's YouTube page.

Another great moment that came close to making the list was when Shawn Michaels was lowered from the ceiling of the arena dressed as The Undertaker. When the fans realized who was really under the leather jacket, HBK got more heat than X-Pac on his best day.

And who could forget the infamous Billionaire Ted segments featuring The Nacho Man and The Huckster? It was one of the first times WWE took a direct shot at WCW, and it did it by parodying two of the people who made WWE popular in the '80s.

WWE doesn't have any of these segments on its official YouTube channel, but you can find them if you search the WWE Network and other places.

There are dozens of other examples of Superstars mimicking each other, but we don't have time to go through them all, so let's get to the top 15.

15. Kaitlyn Plays Vickie Guerrero

2 of 16

Kaitlyn came and went in a few short years, but she left a lasting impression on many fans as one of the most improved women from her season of NXT.

One of her funniest moments came when she dressed up as Vickie Guerrero and mocked the SmackDown general manager with a spot-on impression of one of her trademark freakouts.

AJ Lee gets all the credit for being the most entertaining female during the lowest point in the Divas division, but Kaitlyn was another bright spot who could have accomplished so much more had she stuck around a little longer.

Guerrero was someone who clearly didn't take herself too seriously. She let WWE put her through some embarrassing moments, but she worked hard to sell every single one of them like the professional she was.

14. Gillberg

3 of 16

Goldberg was one of the few homegrown stars to come out of WCW during the Monday Night Wars, and WWE needed to find a way to diminish his impact.

This is where Gillberg came in. We had seen WWE and WCW take shots at each other before, but this was on a completely different level. WWE created an entire character by parodying Goldberg, and it wasn't just for a few appearances.

Duane Gill put everything he had into the gimmick and made it more popular than even Vince McMahon probably thought it could become.

Despite being a joke to poke fun at the WCW champion, the minuscule mimic ended up finding some success as a light heavyweight champion.

However, he was greeted by Kevin Owens during his most recent return with a brutal attack, so not everyone missed his antics.

WWE has had a lot of cringeworthy characters over the years, and Gillberg easily could have become one of them. It was Gill's dedication to the storyline that made it last for as long as it did.

13. WWE Uses Fake Razor Ramon and Diesel

4 of 16

Scott Hall and Kevin Nash ignited the Monday Night Wars when they made the jump from WWE to WCW, and it led to one of the most embarrassing storylines in WWE history.

The company brought in fake versions of their copyrighted Razor Ramon and Diesel characters, but the fans saw through it right away. Instead of Hall and Nash, we got Rick Bognar and Glenn Jacobs.

The storyline also saw Jim Ross turn heel for no reason whatsoever, but the one positive thing it did was give Jacobs an interesting connection to fake characters.

Jacobs plays Kane, who faced a fake version of himself at Vengeance 2006, just like his storyline brother, The Undertaker, had done years earlier at SummerSlam 1994, but we will get to that later.

Oddly enough, the man who played the fake Kane is Luke Gallows, who also impersonated The Undertaker during a segment with CM Punk when they were in The Straight Edge Society.

CM Punk got into the impersonation game when he dressed as Jeff Hardy one time, so everyone was joining in on the fun.

12. AJ Plays Nikki Bella

5 of 16

Maryse may have made headlines for playing Nikki on SmackDown, but AJ did it years before The Miz's wife in a match against Brie Bella.

AJ was the Divas champion at the time, and she was embroiled in a feud with the woman who represented everything she hated in the business.

Nikki was playing a vicious villain, so seeing AJ come out in her attire shaking her fake-padded rear end was even funnier.

Moments like these are why people still miss AJ, but with so many other talented women making an impact, her absence is felt less and less as time goes on.

11. Charlie Haas Impersonates Everyone

6 of 16

Charlie Haas may have been the Marty Jannetty of The World's Greatest Tag Team in some people's minds, but he was able to show off his sense of humor later in his run.

Haas was struggling to find his place among a sea of generic wrestlers, and he may have been released sooner had it not been for his gimmick of impersonating WWE legends.

He donned the attires of such greats as Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Steve Austin, Mr. Perfect, Jimmy Snuka, Roddy Piper and even Beth Phoenix.

Playing people he must have looked up to as a young wrestling fan allowed Haas to show a side of his personality we had never been exposed to before, and it won him a lot of fans.

10. Axelmania

7 of 16

Curtis Axel will always be known as the son of Mr. Perfect, but his best storyline had to do with him paying homage to a completely different legend.

The first time Axel came out wearing Hulk Hogan's signature red and yellow tights, fans didn't know what to think. Then he started talking, and it all made sense.

He was able to do a good Hogan impression with his voice, and after growing up around the business, he had all of Hulkster's mannerisms down pat.

Unfortunately, he was forced to abandon the gimmick when WWE and Hogan parted ways in 2015.

9. Rated RKO Play DX

Randy Orton is not exactly known for being the funniest wrestler on the roster, but he was able to generate some laughs when he and Edge impersonated Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

Rated RKO was in a feud with DX over the tag titles, and with Edge's penchant for humor, it was only a matter of time before it found a creative way to mock its rivals.

Edge's beard made him the perfect choice to play Triple H, and Orton did a surprisingly good job copying all of HBK's signature poses.

It's not a segment people will be talking about as being groundbreaking in 50 years, but if you are a fan of Orton or Edge, you will thoroughly enjoy it.

8. NWO Creates a Second Sting

9 of 16

At a time when it seemed like half the WCW roster was defecting to the New World Order, Sting stood alone as its opposing force.

The stable decided to frame The Stinger by having a wrestler by the name of Jeff Farmer don his iconic face paint and attack Lex Luger.

The Sting imposter was what drove Steve Borden to take his character in a much darker direction. He ditched the bright colors and blond hair for a look inspired by The Crow.

Farmer played the fake Sting for almost two years before he took his talents to Japan, where he continued to portray the character until changing his name to Super J and forming Team 2000 with Masahiro Chono and Mike Rotunda.

7. Shawn Michaels Plays Hulk Hogan

10 of 16

Shawn Michaels vs. Hulk Hogan was one of those feuds we never thought we would see. Between Hogan being in WCW for a long time and HBK being out of action for four years with back problems, the timing never seemed to line up.

Michaels worked hard to get back to the business he was told he could never participate in again, and he made his successful return in 2002.

The two actually started as a tag team before The Heartbreak Kid ended their union with one swift superkick. This set in motion their showdown at SummerSlam 2005.

During the buildup to the pay-per-view, Michaels appeared dressed as Hogan for an interview no fan will ever forget.

This was one of those moments when you could tell Michaels was really enjoying himself, which made it that much more fun for everyone watching at home.

6. Kurt Angle Plays John Cena

The Miz may have played a hilarious John Cena on SmackDown, but Kurt Angle beat him to the punch when he dressed up as the man who will induct him into The Hall of Fame during his Doctor of Thuganomics period.

Angle is going to go down as one of the most gifted wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of boots, but his comedic skills cannot be overlooked.

He was part of countless side-splitting segments with the likes of Stone Cole, Edge, The Rock and Triple H, and his impression of Cena was no different.

When WWE plays his induction video before Cena brings him onto the stage, you can bet this moment will be among the clips shown.

5. The Miz Plays the Rock

12 of 16

The Miz, Cena and The Rock were intertwined for a couple of years when Rocky was beginning to work with WWE again.

One of the best moments from their storyline was the end of a match between Cena and Alberto Del Rio on an episode of Raw.

Cena was being beaten down by Del Rio and Brodus Clay when The Great One's music hit. When The Miz emerged wearing a bald cap, sunglasses and a Rock shirt, it took fans a few moments to realize what was happening.

He had Rocky's movements down perfectly, and he even performed a decent Rock Bottom. This was when The Miz was at the peak of his career, but with the way things are going, he may surpass his own previous accomplishments in 2017.

4. The Undertaker Faces Himself

13 of 16

WWE has done the wrestler vs. a fake version of himself angle a few times, but the most famous occurrence was when Paul Bearer's Undertaker battled Ted DiBiase's Undertaker at SummerSlam 1994.

Brian Lee was tasked with playing The Deadman's doppelganger. His size and haircut made him an ideal choice for the role, and he pulled it off well.

Lee was brought in by DiBiase, who had introduced the real Undertaker to WWE fans at Survivor Series 1990. In the weeks leading up to the match, Bearer and The Million Dollar Man debated who was managing the real Undertaker.

Their bout lasted less than 10 minutes, but the conclusion left no question as to who the real Deadman of WWE was.

One thing some fans may not know is Lee is actually Mark Calaway's cousin in real life and went on to portray Chainz in the short-lived Disciples of Apocalypse stable.

3. Damien Sandow Impersonates Vince McMahon and More

14 of 16

Damien Sandow is one of the greatest examples of WWE having a Superstar who could wrestle and talk better than most and not being able to use him properly.

His Intellectual Savior character was great, but fans learned what he was truly capable of when he began serving as The Miz's stunt double.

During this time, Sandow not only mimicked his employer's moves outside the ring, but he also impersonated several past and present Superstars.

One of his funniest moments was when he was allowed to do an impression of Vince McMahon. While mocking the boss is never a good idea, he went for it with gusto.

He had McMahon's signature strut and vocal pattern mastered. Unfortunately, his glee at playing the chairman faded when he found out he was facing The Great Khali.

2. The Miz and Maryse Play John Cena and Nikki Bella

15 of 16

The Miz has been mentioned several times in this list, but the whole reason for its creation was the fake Total Bellas footage he starred in with Maryse on Tuesday's SmackDown.

The segments featured the Hollywood wannabe and his wife playing Cena and Nikki in what was supposed to be lost footage from their reality show.

The Miz played Cena as the uptight control freak he has been portrayed as on the show, and Maryse took Nikki and turned her into a caricature of who she really is.

With all of the attention that their brutal promos on Talking Smack have been getting, it was nice to see the "it couple" show off their comedic side for a change.

When rumors first began circulating of the possibility of a mixed tag match featuring the two couples at WrestleMania 33, many thought the idea was terrible, but the four of them have made it one of the more entertaining storylines heading into the event.

Is it too early to predict Cena will propose to Nikki after they win at WrestleMania?

1. Triple H and Shawn Michaels Play the McMahons

16 of 16

The most famous impressions in WWE history had to make No. 1 on the list, and it's when Triple H and Shawn Michaels dressed up as Vince and Shane McMahon.

WWE has played this moment many times throughout the years—and for good reason. DX was in rare form that night.

Triple H somehow found a way to make Vince's strut even more ridiculous than usual, and Michaels made Shane look like a hyperactive child who suffered from seizures.

Vince must have a good sense of humor about himself to let his son-in-law mock him on live television, especially knowing Triple H's tendency to go off script.

WWE didn't put the full segment in all its glory on YouTube, but you can see it on the WWE Network on the June 26, 2006 episode of Raw in its entirety.

If you have never watched it, stop what you are doing and check it out right now. Keep in mind, this was before WWE went PG, so there is some colorful language in the segment.
