Lakers Put on Historically Bad 3-Point Display Versus Rockets
The Los Angeles Lakers connected on just three of their 25 three-point attempts during Wednesday's game against the Houston Rockets. The club's three-point percentage (12) in the contest marked its worst shooting efficiency of the 322 games in franchise history in which it attempted 25, per the Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN.com).
The Lakers suffered a 39-point defeat at the hands of the Rockets, the second consecutive time the club has lost to Houston by that amount. In the team's first 53 seasons in Los Angeles, it lost by 39-plus points just four times. Following Wednesday's result, the Lakers have done so eight different times in the last four seasons, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Wednesday's loss marked the team's 11th in its last 12 games. Over that span, the Lakers have allowed at least 110 points in eight of them. Los Angeles currently possesses the worst record in the Western Conference and the second-worst record overall, placing them in a prime spot for an elite lottery pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
Due to its struggles this season, club president Jeanie Buss made a couple major shakeups by firing general manager Mitch Kupchak and her brother, Jim Buss, as the top executives. The Lakers are now headed by longtime Hall of Fame guard Magic Johnson (president of basketball operations) and Rob Pelinka (general manager).
The Lakers possess a couple of solid young pieces to build around in point guard D'Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram and big man Julius Randle but have a long way to go before competing with the likes of the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs.
A good first-round selection in the draft could at least get the team moving in the correct direction.
