Tony Romo Received $64.11 Bonus for Playing 1 Drive in 2016

Andrew GouldMar 16, 2017

Tony Romo's brief Week 17 return at most amounted to a short audition for a new gig. Yet it turns out the lone series also earned the quarterback a microscopic bonus.

According to NFL.com's Dan Hanzus, Romo pocketed an extra $64.11 by going 3-of-4 with 29 passing yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, which bore no playoff implications for the Dallas Cowboys. Meanwhile, starting quarterback Dak Prescott netted a $354,544.57 performance-based bonus after starting every game.

That bonus is pocket change compared to Romo's massive salary in 2016. Per Spotrac, he was responsible for a $20.835 million cap hit when factoring in signing, option and restructuring bonuses to his $8.5 million base salary. He made exponentially more than Prescott, who received a $545,848 rookie salary as a fourth-round draft pick.

Romo's $64.11 bonus isn't even enough to buy a replica of his new jersey if he lands elsewhere, but he could probably purchase some of his old Cowboys apparel on clearance.
