Shaquille O'Neal Says He Won't Ever Discuss JaVale McGee Situation Again
After a lengthy public feud with Golden State Warriors center JaVale McGee, Hall of Famer and TNT NBA analyst Shaquille O'Neal put an end to it Thursday on Inside the NBA.
As seen in the following video, Shaq vowed to never make mention of McGee again:
"It didn't get out of hand, but my mother is someone who I love and respect," O'Neal said. "She told me to stop it and don't bring it up again, so I'm not going to talk about it ever again."
McGee's on-court mishaps have been featured on Inside the NBA's "Shaqtin' a Fool" segment regularly in recent years, but O'Neal denied targeting him specifically: "Everybody is on 'Shaqtin' a Fool.' It's one of the funniest shows in the world. You mess up, you're on it, we do it. We don't pick on people. We don't try to ruin people's careers. If I was a player and I was so worried about being on 'Shaqtin' a Fool,' I wouldn't mess up."
O'Neal and McGee recently traded barbs on Twitter, which resulted in their mothers' getting involved.
Pamela McGee said the following regarding Shaq, per Mike Wise of ESPN's The Undefeated: "He cyberbullied my son. Totally inappropriate. Shaquille needs to lose his job or be suspended. The NBA needs to make a stand."
Also, Shaq told Wise that his mom told him to put an end to the rivalry: "I have orders from the top to leave it alone. ... My mama. Just say Shaq's mom called him, told him, 'Stop this silliness. Leave him alone.' So that's the end of the beef. You won't be hearing about it from my side anymore. Mama has spoken."
McGee is in the midst of his ninth NBA season and first with the Dubs, averaging 5.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as a reserve.
O'Neal—a four-time NBA champion and three-time Finals MVP—has worked for TNT since 2011.
