Daytona 500 2017: Complete TV Schedule, Starting Order After the Duels
All 40 berths are set for Sunday's Daytona 500 following Thursday night's duels, and Chase Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will man the first two spots in the first event of the NASCAR sprint season.
Elliott won the first of the two duels as he took the lead on the 37th lap and held off challenges from Jamie McMurray, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski to secure the victory. Those three finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the first race of the night.
Denny Hamlin took the lead with just two laps to go in the second duel, and he went by Earnhardt to get the victory.
Earnhardt led for 53 of the race's 60 laps, but Hamlin was able to get the lead when he received a push from teammate Austin Dillon late in the event.

"Got a great push there from Austin, we worked well together the entire race," Hamlin told Fox Sports 1 (h/t Daniel McFadin of NBC Sports). "I'll keep that in mind for the 500. Looked like our cars were really good together. Can't thank this team enough."
Earnhardt was philosophical about losing the lead in the late going, but he could afford to be since he will be starting from the No. 2 position.
"I don't know what I could have done differently to defend that," Earnhardt told FS1 (h/t NBC Sports). "As soon as I heard (Dillon) was clear on the outside, I knew they were going to have a big run. Denny is so smart, he knows what he's doing out there. One of the better plate racers out there."

Elliott was thrilled with the way his car ran Thursday night.
"We had some steam tonight, and it was apparent," Elliott told Fox Sports 1 (h/t Jerry Bonkowski of NBC Sports). "I'm excited about how this thing ran tonight, keeping it in one piece. I know this is only a Duel win and doesn't count toward a win in the playoffs, but it still means a lot to me and the team. It's a great way to start the season."
The final four spots in the race were filled by Corey LaJoie, DJ Kennington, Elliott Sadler and Brendan Gaughan. Kennington became the first Canadian to qualify for the race in 29 years.
