'Jeopardy!' Contestant Mocks Warriors' Blown 3-1 Finals Lead with Closing Bids

The joke that never dies finally found its way to Jeopardy!

NBA podcaster Loren Lee Chen became a back-to-back champion on the game show, a distinction the Golden State Warriors failed to earn despite gaining a 3-1 lead in their second consecutive NBA Finals appearance. Given the contestant's basketball background, his final Jeopardy! bids of $301 and $739 seemed like more than a coincidence.

On Twitter, he jokingly feigned ignorance to the Warriors connection while all but confirming his intent:

No, he didn't happen to wager $301 by chance. He came clean to ESPN.com's Jovan Buha.

"'Basketball Twitter' is obviously a big part of my life, so I wanted to give them a little shout-out, though now it might have been a little stale," Chen said.

The 3-1 digs indeed grew stale a long time ago, and one would think Cleveland Cavaliers fans would have retired the bit after the Cleveland Indians squandered an identical World Series advantage. Yet now even Alex Trebek must endure them.

Will Chen keep it going Thursday?
