WWE Raw: Burning Questions to Address After November 28 Show

Ryan DilbertNov 29, 2016

As the stories of Monday's WWE Raw unfolded, familiar sights emerged.

Sasha Banks yanked the Raw Women's Championship from Charlotte Flair. Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens bickered to the point of a supposed breakup. And WWE hinted at the possibility of a trade between Raw and SmackDown.

Will any of these developments turn out differently this time?

Banks has beaten Flair several times now only to drop the title less than a month later. Is that pattern done with or is The Boss destined to fall again?

Jericho and Owens have fooled the audience into thinking their friendship is over. Is that the case again? Is Raw's most compelling pairing really finished?

Is the latest foreshadowing of a Raw-SmackDown deal a case of more smoke with no fire?

These are the questions that Monday's Raw left fans mulling over. The show's narrative uncertainties acted as cliffhangers as Jericho and Owens seemed to part ways and Banks slipped on her crown once more.

Is the Jericho-Owens Split for Real?

Best friends Jericho and Owens appeared to disjoin live on stage.

On Jericho's "Highlight Reel," the universal champ said he didn't need Y2J to help him retain his title. Owens told Jericho to shut up, leaving him stunned.

Backstage, the squabble continued. Jericho left the building in a huff after saying his friendship with KO was over.

That's not how Jeri-Ko ends, right? WWE can't just let one of its most entertaining pairings dissolve in such underwhelming fashion.

There's reason to believe this is temporary, though. Just last week, the buddies teased a split before embracing.

Brandon Stroud of UPROXX joked about Jericho and Owens' near-breakups:

Owens and Jericho will end, but not yet. WWE is bound to make that a bigger moment than we saw on Monday night. The company is bound to toy with the audience and make it look as if Jeri-Ko is over again and again.

Remember how often The Shield looked ready to implode before it actually did.

Is The New Day Turning Heel?

The New Day marched on toward history on Monday's Raw. The tag champs fended off another set of challengers.

But the way in which The New Day bested Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson is well worth discussion. Xavier Woods pulled Anderson's tights, a move straight from wrestling heel playbook.

The champs' last two title defenses have now come by nefarious means.

The New Day breaking Demolition's record as WWE's longest-reigning champions now looks inevitable, but will a change in character accompany that feat?

It seems unlikely that WWE would have such a popular group turn heel at this point, but something is in the works. The New Day has clearly shifted its stance on what's acceptable in the pursuit of victory.

The champs don't need to morph into full-on villains, but it would be a smart move to tweak the trio's characters. Change is compelling. And after The New Day surpasses Demolition, WWE is going to need something else to focus on with this group.

Is Sami Zayn Destined to be Traded?

Sami Zayn heading to SmackDown suddenly feels like a viable possibility.

Zayn again collided with Braun Strowman on Monday's Raw. Like in the past, it didn't go well for the babyface. Strowman steamrolled R-Truth and squeezed Goldust like a boa constrictor before Zayn charged in for the save.

The big man then hung Zayn upside down in the corner, looking ready to feast on him.

Raw general manager Mick Foley and a swarm of referees came to Zayn's aid. A heated argument followed. Zayn wasn't happy that Foley has involved himself in his fights of late.

The two shouted at each other. Zayn called his boss a hypocrite.

It didn't take SmackDown's own GM, Daniel Bryan, long to chime in. He tweeted on Monday:

This is just the latest tease of a potential trade between the brands. Bryan has openly courted Cesaro and made it clear that he's no fan of The Miz. Could a major move be on the way?

WWE is certainly going to keep hinting at these developments. That's an easy way to create intrigue.

And eventually, it has to lead somewhere. Expect Raw and SmackDown to make at least one swap before WrestleMania 33. The Miz for Zayn would be quite the interesting trade, but won't likely happen until the former isn't holding the Intercontinental Championship anymore.

Will The Boss Finally Get a Lengthy Title Reign?

Banks outlasted Flair in a Falls Count Anywhere match in The Queen's hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. With the win, Banks became a three-time Raw women's champ.

This was the fifth match where one of these wrestlers dethroned the other. They have traded the title back and forth in the second half of 2016.

Since The Boss defeated The Queen in July, WWE has gone to a short-reign model. Only one of the last four women's title reigns has lasted longer than a month, per WWE.com:

  • Banks (27 days)
  • Flair (44 days)
  • Banks (28 days)
  • Flair (30 days)

Is this pattern going to end now or are these two warriors destined to keep knocking each other off the mountain?

It's time to stick with a champ for a long stretch. It's time to move on from this feud, even with as great as it's been at its high points.

The audience needs to see something different.

Charlotte can clash with another rival. Banks can move on to new challenges. This way, other Superstars from the division will get some spotlight and feed off the momentum Banks and Flair have generated.

The Boss needs to reign supreme for far longer than she has in the past. Otherwise, her title wins will lose all meaning, becoming moments fans grow numb to.
