Panthers Announce Lee's Replacement
Monday, Nov. 14
Carolina signed Michael Palardy, who was with the Panthers in the preseason, to take Lee's place on the active roster, according to Max Henson of the team's official website.
Lee Has Been One of the NFL's Premier Punters
The Panthers traded a 2018 fourth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for Lee in late August, and it didn't take long for them to tab the 13-year veteran as their primary punter.
Nine games into the 2016 season, Lee averaged a fourth-ranked 49.1 yards per punt. Only Pat McAfee, Sam Martin and Thomas Morstead have been better.
However, Lee also surrendered 13.9 return yards per punt—which is tied with the Chicago Bears' Pat O'Donnell for the highest mark in the NFL.
Now it will be up to Palardy to take over the reins and try to flip the field for Carolina on a consistent basis. During his four years with the Tennessee Volunteers, Palardy averaged 42.2 yards per punt.
