Cruz in Familiar Territory with Recent Injury
This season marks the first time since 2014 that Cruz has managed to step on the field, as he has been dogged by injuries that included a torn patellar tendon in his right knee and a calf issue.
Once one of the most promising young receivers in the league, the 30-year-old recorded 2,628 yards and 19 touchdowns in his first two full NFL seasons.
But the severe injuries put his longevity and production in serious doubt heading into 2016.
Prior to the injury, Cruz caught 25 passes for 377 yards and one touchdown as a slot threat and No. 3 receiver within the Eli Manning-led Giants offense.
He also created a Big Three of Giants receivers that includes Odell Beckham Jr. and rookie Sterling Shepard within a West Coast system that ranks ninth in the NFL in passing yards.
If Cruz is forced back to the sidelines, Shepard would continue to take on an even more prominent role in the Giants' passing game as New York doesn't have much else to offer in the wide receiver department.
