The New Day Continues to Be WWE's Premier Act, Deserves to Break Tag Team Record

The New Day is the hottest act in WWE.

That sentiment has been repeated by fans all over the world since 2015, and it continues to be true today. The only thing more impressive than The New Day's quality run is its reign as WWE tag team champions, and that should continue as well. 

The New Day deserves to break WWE's all-time tag team record.

The New Day's success is hard to explain for the WWE faithful. The trio is too goofy to be believed. Their antics are silly beyond words. They act like overgrown kids playing in the backyard. But every time they're in the ring, they bring the house down.

Big E, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston have made the best of a bad gimmick, and they've made it work like no one could have ever expected.

Therein lies the key reason why The New Day has earned the right to break the record. When the three men were initially put together, the idea fell flat. Fans didn't care about The New Day, and they cared less about what would happen to them.

Their comedy routine was lame, and it appeared to be dead before it even began.

But instead of allowing it to fail, the three Superstars found a way to succeed. They chose not to focus on the negatives; rather, they accentuated the positives. More importantly, they just had fun with it. When the talent has fun, the fans do as well.

The New Day has taken everyone along for the ride, and it's showing no signs of slowing down.

Fans typically have a short attention span, and even when they are interested, that interest sometimes doesn't last long. But that's not the case with The New Day, as fans just can't seem to get enough of them.

The New Day is entertaining, and that's what matters.

The New Day is so polished and so cohesive that it rarely ever misses on the mic or in the ring. The three are natural-born entertainers, and that's what makes them so good together. They've been on top of the tag team division from the moment they first became WWE Raw tag team champions, and they have set the bar for everyone else to follow.

Now they're following Demolition into the WWE history books.

Ax and Smash hold the record for the longest run as tag team champions at 478 days. That record was perhaps meant to be broken because, as of the Nov. 7 Raw, The New Day has held the titles for 442 days.

Perhaps the question is not why The New Day should tie and break the record. Maybe the question is why not?

This is not Ric Flair's world-title record. The Nature Boy was champion 16 different times, and John Cena is the only active WWE Superstar who is close to matching him. The differences between Flair and Cena have been debated among fans, including whether the storied record should be broken.

But even though Demolition is loved by many fans, it may not be as respected as Flair when it comes to being the best of all time. The New Day does not have the concern of trying to measure up to such a high standard. Tag team wrestling is much more subjective and can be redefined by generation.

The Road Warriors and The Dudley Boyz were only similar in terms of their physicality, but they are considered by many to be the two best teams of all time. The Fabulous Freebirds and The Shield were both factions, but they both ruled tag team wrestling for their respective companies. The Rock 'n' Roll Express and The New Age Outlaws couldn't have been more different, but they were both trendsetting duos.

As impossible as it may have seemed, The New Day represents the best of tag team wrestling in 2016. It has found the means to get over and entertain on a high level. The three are the best at what they do, and no one else does it quite like them.

The New Day is still as hot as ever, and that is a rarity in the business. There is no reason to stop it now, and there is even less reason to take the belts from it now. Big E, Woods and Kingston deserve to break the record, and WWE should make it happen.

It's about rewarding The New Day for its efforts, and no other team in the company deserves that reward more.
