Hulk Hogan's Daughter Brooke Says People Have Called Him for WrestleMania
The alleged thawing of Hulk Hogan's relationship with WWE may lead to a WrestleMania return.
Hulk's daughter Brooke told TMZ that WWE officials have been in contact with the wrestling legend and hinted WrestleMania may feature his return to the company.
"I'll just say I know that people have been calling him...for WrestleMania," Brooke said. Ā
Hulk Hogan, 63, was released from his Legends contract and fired as aĀ Tough EnoughĀ judge last year after private, racially charged comments were made public. Footage obtainedĀ by media outlets featured Hogan using racist slurs and saying he is "a racist, to a point."Ā
Dylan Howard and Lachlan CartwrightĀ of theĀ National EnquirerĀ provided a transcript of Hogan's comments:
"I mean, I donāt have double standards. I mean, I am a racist, to a point, f*cking n*ggers. But then when it comes to nice people and sh*t, and whatever.
[...]
I guess weāre all a little racist. F*cking n*gger.
"
"WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide," the company said in a statement releasing Hogan.
Perhaps the most celebrated wrestler in history, Hogan has been essentially scrubbed from WWE's website. He has been removed from its Hall of Fame section, and nearly all imagery of him is gone.Ā
In July 2015, Hogan released an apology to People.com:
"Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation. It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it.Ā
This is not who I am. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise. I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs.
"
While WWE has not publicly acknowledged Hogan, there have been hints that he is no longer a persona non grata. His matches have returned to WWE Network, and the company has featured his likeness in commercials promoting content on the network.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer RadioĀ reported in September that WWE is trying to "ease him [Hogan] in for sure." WWE has not confirmed Meltzer's report or Brooke Hogan's comments.
