DeSean Jackson Fined for Wearing Cleats Advocating Social Justice
Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson tried to send a message with his footwear, but the result was a hefty fine from the NFL.
According to John Kiem of ESPN.com, the police-tape cleats Jackson wore during the Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns led to a $6,076 fine. As Kiem noted, the receiver was planning to only wear them during warm-ups but instead kept them on all game.
Jackson switched back to league-approved cleats in Week 5.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The 29-year-old veteran clarified his message in a team statement, per Todd Dybas of the Washington Times:
"Today is the start of my attempts to be part of a solution and start dialogue about the senseless killings of both citizens and police. I have chosen to wear these cleats in pregame today to use my platform as a pro athlete to add to this discussion. This isn’t meant to be any kind of protest against the good men and women in law enforcement in this country. I just want to express my concern in a peaceful and productive way about issues that are currently impacting our country.
"
Despite receiving a fine for his effort, Jackson doesn't regret his decision, per Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch:
Jackson isn't the only receiver to face punishment from the NFL due to his choice of footwear. Antonio Brown has been forced to remove his cleats or face ejection this season, also picking up fines for uniform violations. So far, the Pittsburgh Steelers star has worn cleats with pictures of his children as well as images of Arnold Palmer and Muhammad Ali.
Based on the responses from both players, it doesn't appear as though fines will change their approach anytime soon.
