Barcelona Transfer News: Latest on Jonathan Calleri and Gabriel Jesus Rumours
Barcelona are reportedly eyeing Sao Paulo striker Jonathan Calleri as a potential signing as they look to add greater depth to their forward line.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Calleri, 22, was the top scorer in the 2016 Copa Libertadores and has only a year remaining on his Sao Paulo contract, while there have been reports that he has an agreement to join West Ham United.
Barca have struggled to sign a striker thus far in the summer transfer window as they look to bring in cover for Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi.
Per Goal's Ignasi Oliva and Ben Hayward, key targets Nolito, Kevin Gameiro and Luciano Vietto have all opted against moving to the Camp Nou as they would have limited first-team opportunities.
Given the strength of the Blaugrana's front line, elite strikers are unlikely to be open to moving to Barca where they would undoubtedly spend much of their time on the bench.
However, Argentinian Calleri could potentially see the move as a huge opportunity given that he has yet to play outside of South America.
There is hardly a bigger club in Europe that he could move to than Barca, and he is young enough to not be overly concerned with having to play backup to Suarez, Messi and Neymar for the time being.
On Barca's part, Calleri also has a host of positive attributes. Per WhoScored.com, he is excellent in the air, a decent finisher and unafraid to run with the ball:
His ill discipline is a concern, but greater experience should moderate his temper in the long run, and he looks a good fit for the style of football Barca play under manager Luis Enrique.
While not yet a star name, Calleri could certainly be a terrific asset for Barca in the long term.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Palmeiras forward Gabriel Jesus has effectively confirmed he will leave the Brazilian club, but it is unlikely he will join Barca.
Per Sport, the Brazilian prospect is most likely to move to Manchester City over Barcelona and said his switch is almost complete:
"My future is almost decided. My family, my representatives and Palmeiras know where I want to go, but for now I'm totally concentrating on getting gold with the national team (at the Olympic Games).
It's difficult to talk about. I can only say that the negotiations are on their way. I've already said that I will only talk once it's resolved. This is a particular issue and I would like that to be respected. When there's a change I will comment on it, but for now I'm focused on the national team and the Olympics.
"
Per Sport's Lluis Miguelsanz, Barca were one of the first clubs to table an offer for Jesus when they made a bid close to €20 million (£16.9 million).
But talks never really advanced, and the La Liga giants look set to miss out on yet another attacking target.
