Klay Thompson on Kevin Durant: 'Still Kind of Starstruck When I'm Around Him'
Thompson is clearly a team player.
The Golden State Warriors guard is one of the best shooters in the NBA—he hit 276 three-pointers in 2015-16 on 42.5 percent shooting from behind the arc—yet he shares a team with the best shooter in the NBA in Stephen Curry (402 threes on 45.4 percent shooting).
With Kevin Durant coming to town, Thompson will have yet another superstar to share the spotlight with, and that's just fine with him.
Thompson told Sam Amick of USA Today:
"I think (going after Durant was) a no-brainer man, just because it's a once-in-a-generation kind of talent. It's history. There have never been two … under 30 (years old) on the same team, so it was a no-brainer just because he's such a great talent and he'd be such a pleasure to play with.
"
Thompson and Durant are currently playing together for Team USA and are still getting to know each other.
Thompson said:
"I'm still in awe of the guy. I'm still kind of starstruck when I'm around him, like 'Man, that's Kevin Durant, you know? He's on our team. That's crazy.' You get to know him more. He's such a grounded individual. He's such a normal guy. He just loves basketball. He's actually a well-rounded person.
"
As for being a team player, Thompson referenced Manu of the San Antonio Spurs: "The guy, look at the sacrifices he made, man. He's been one of the best 2-guards in the league for so long, and he's got the respect of everybody in the NBA because he's a winner."
Indeed.
And winning, clearly, is what the Warriors hope to do.
